Usha Uthup belts out the new sensation ‘Aami Shotti Bolchi’

Vidya Balan, lost in Kolkata, and looking gorgeous is incentive enough to watch this video. Usha Uthup & Vishal-Shekhar’s ‘Aami Shotti Bolchi’ adds more to the craze.

The first official song promo from Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani is finally out. There’s a HUGE buzz around the movie – touted as Vidya’s second superhit in a row, following The Dirty Picture – that we don’t doubt!

Titled ‘Aami Shotti Bolchi‘, it literally translates to ‘I’m speaking the truth’.

“Dil ka bazaar hai, thoda bizzare hai
Koi kehta khwaishon armaano ka achaar hai
Jitne bhi door jaao, dil se na far hai
Kolkata dekho toh baaki duniya bekaar hai
Strong hai powerful hai phir bhi yeh lechaar hai
Bilkul naya hai phir bhi beetay kal mein girftaar hai
Aami shotti bolchi”

Composed by the generally dependable Vishal-Shekhar, it is primarily a funky grunge track sung by Usha Uthup & Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy of ‘The Dewarists’ fame & singer of the band ‘Scribe‘. Based in Kolkata, the song is a tribute to the City of Joy. It’s in the same league as that of ‘Ee hai Bambai nagaria tu dekh babua’ from Don & ‘Bambai Nagariya’ from Taxi No. 9211 – just in Kolkata, not Mumbai. The video is a visual joy with a depiction of the nitty-gritties of the city in all her glory during the Durgotsava festive period.

Kahaani is a story about Vidya Bagchi, who arrives in Kolkata from London to find her missing husband Arnab Bagchi. Six months pregnant and alone in a festive city, she begins a relentless search for her  husband. With nothing to rely on except fragments from her memories about him, all clues seem to reach a dead end when everyone tries to convince Vidya that her husband does not exist. She slowly realises that nothing is what it seems. In a city soaked in lies, Vidya is determined to unravel the truth about her husband – for herself and her unborn child – even at the cost of her own life.
